CFDA launches Planned Parenthood support initiative
After a banner turn out by the fashion industry at the Women’s March in Washington, D.C., fashion is continuing its backing of women’s rights with the CFDA's announcement to support Planned Parenthood.
“Planned Parenthood has stood defiantly in the face of opposition for a century, and we’re not backing down now,” said Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
“The American people overwhelmingly support our organization and strongly oppose ‘defunding’ care at our health centers. Planned Parenthood’s millions of supporters, including the CFDA, are mobilizing to protect access to reproductive health and rights for everyone, including the 2.5 million patients we serve, and we will continue to fight to ensure that all people can get the care they need.”
Hot pink “Fashion Stands with Planned Parenthood” buttons will be handed out at New York Fashion Week to designers, guests, models, agencies, PR representatives, and journalists. Along with the pin, a card outlining all the services Planned Parenthood provides and how important the organization is to America will be distributed. Designers are being encouraged to wear the pins during their final bow and to send a model out wearing a pin.
Over 40 designers have pledged to participate including Carolina Herrera, Proenza Schouler, Prabal Gurung, Tory Burch, Cushnie et Ochs, and Narciso Rodriguez.
The mission is not to raise funds for the organization, but to promote the cause that Planned Parenthood supports.
“Civic responsibility is an important CFDA pillar,” said Steven Kolb, CFDA’s president and CEO.
“Defunding Planned Parenthood will impact millions of Americans. We will raise awareness and support this fashion week and show that Fashion Stands with Planned Parenthood.”
