Chinese textile exports plunge 11.4% in 2009

Published
Jan 4, 2010

Between January and November 2009 China lost more than a tenth of its foreign orders for textiles. This plunge was attributed to a weakening in the world market by the Ministry of Commerce.

The drop was particularly pronounced in the months of March and June, which saw declines of 8.4% and 7% respectively when compared to 2008. This trend was reversed as the end of the year approached however, with both October and November seeing increases. November saw exports rise 7.8%, worth some €66.6 million according to the Ministry of Technology; an improvement the government claims should continue. But with competition between Asian nations set to step up in 2010 in the face of the Chinese giant, this year could be one for some surprises.
