Christina Zeller, the artistic director of Delvaux, is leaving the company after almost a decade at the Belgian luxury marque.

“La Maison Delvaux announces the departure of its artistic director, Christina Zeller, who is leaving the company for personal reasons,” the Brussels-based brand said in a release Monday.

Her departure marks the latest important departure from Delvaux, and comes 10 months after CEO Jean Marc Loubier was succeeded by Marco Probst.

“The artistic direction of the company will be taken over by the creative studio that has collaborated with Christina Zeller for the past three years and more,” the 191-year-old house added.

Delvaux was founded in Brussels in 1829 and was acquired by First Heritage Brands, a Chinese investment firm controlled by the Fung family, in 2011. Since then, it is has greatly expanded globally, opening stores in New York, Paris, London, Rome, Milan and Hong Kong. Following the acquisition, it has multiplied its sales by a factor of 10, and now operates 45 mono-brand stores worldwide.

Official purveyor to the Royal Court of Belgium since 1883, Delvaux is the inventor of the modern handbag, having filed the first ever handbag patent in 1908.

Zeller first joined Delvaux back in 2011 as image & product director and played a decisive role in redefining the different collections.

In 2017, as growth took off with significant double digital annual increases, Delvaux named Zeller artistic director of the House. In January 2020, in addition to that role, Christina Zeller was also placed in charge of communications.

During her tenure, Zeller was instrumental in developing Delvaux into a truly luxury brand, blending its unique artisanal qualities with elements of Surrealism, referencing the great Belgian artists René Magritte.

In the statement Probst offered “his warmest thanks to Christina for her exceptional dedication and for the outstanding creativity that she brought to the company, and forthe strong and unique identity she forged for it.”

Christina Zeller will continue to work together with the teams until the end of 2020, the house noted.
