Claire's dives into world of subscription boxes with launch of Cdrop

Published
Sep 23, 2021

Youth-focused accessories retailer Claire’s Stores, Inc. has announced the debut of Cdrop, its first-ever subscription service, which launches with three different style choices and two subscription models.

Available now in the U.S., with free shipping to all 50 states, Cdrop is meant to provide customers with a new way of discovering Claire’s products by delivering a curated box – or “drop” – of accessories directly to consumers’ homes.

And the retailer has savvily opted to diversify its subscription offering from the get-go, giving customers the choice between three themed drops with well-defined target consumers and differentiated product assortments.

Subscribers can therefore choose to receive the BitsyDrop, the VibeyDrop or the GlitzyDrop. The first is aimed at younger consumers, offering items such as hair accessories, toys and jewelry, including butterfly clips, scrunchies and popper fidget toys. The second seeks to cater to older teen and young adult consumers with on-trend jewelry, accessories, handbags and makeup. Finally, rather than targeting a specific age range, the GlitzyDrop focuses on earrings.

As well as these different box themes, Cdrop also offers two distinct purchasing options. Customers can sign up to receive quarterly drops for $30 per box or can purchase a one-time drop for $32.

“For more than 50 years, Claire’s has been synonymous with fun, innovation and discovery through our ability to surprise and delight our customers with our trendsetting assortment as well as the memorable experiences created through our piercing expertise and services,” commented Claire’s EVP and chief merchandising officer Beth Moeri in a release. “As we continue to inspire customers and meet them where they live and shop, Cdrop provides the latest trends to empower today’s customers to be their truest selves.”

With the launch of Cdrop, Claire’s joins the likes of Stitch Fix, Glossybox and FabFitFun on the now well-established subscription box market. The sector has seen significant growth over the past few years and is expected to continue to expand moving forward, having received a boost of renewed interest during lockdown, just as hype around the phenomenon seemed to be dying down.
