Clarins launches traceability platform for skincare products

French cosmetics group Clarins has launched a traceability platform to chart the development process of its Clarins brand's skincare products from “fields to consumers,” as indicated by the group.

Clarins has launched the Clarins T.R.U.S.T. product traceability platform - DR

The innovative platform is called Clarins T.R.U.S.T. (the acronym for traceability, responsibility, uniqueness, security and transparency) and utilises blockchain technology. Via QR codes printed on the product packaging and on clarins.com, consumers are able to access the Clarins T.R.U.S.T. interface. Once a skincare product’s lot number is entered, the platform provides information on plant origin, on the supply chain, and on the various steps in the manufacturing process that are carried out at the Clarins factory in Pontoise, France, from preparation to packaging, quality control and shipping.

“The Clarins T.R.U.S.T. platform is a ground-breaking innovation, based on its wide scope and unique blockchain technology. It represents a new step for Clarins, and more globally for the traceability and transparency of our industry. Consumers have the right to expect secure, tamper-proof and reliable systems to ensure our CSR commitments are reflected in our actions. With Clarins T.R.U.S.T., everyone can measure it with certainty at Clarins,” said Virginie Courtin, managing director of the Clarins Group.

The platform's launch is the culmination of a gradual roll-out. In 2022, Clarins traced the provenance of 30 of its products, and nearly 60 new items will be traced by the end of 2023, when the Clarins group is set to obtain B Corp. certification.

The Clarins group is present in over 150 countries with the Clarins and MyBlend brands, and generates a revenue of approximately €1.5 billion. The group has recently acquired US clean beauty make-up brand Ilia.
