Clarins names Virginie Courtin-Clarins deputy CEO, head of CSR; announces new CSR goals

Virginie Courtin-Clarins, the granddaughter of Clarins founder Jacques Courtin-Clarins, has been named as the French luxury beauty company's new deputy chief executive officer and head of corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Within these roles, Courtin-Clarins will expand and accelerate the brand's ethical and sustainable commitments and practices, which include a strategic plan to see Clarins become a Certified B Corporation within the next three years, the company said.

Courtin-Clarins has held several roles within the portfolio of Clarins brands; first, as marketing director for Mugler—a brand that sold to L’Oréal as part of a 2019 deal—in 2013, before being promoted to general manager, then as Clarins group director In 2018.

Under Courtin-Clarins' leadership, the company's CSR has focused on two pillars: caring for people and caring for the planet, the company said. The company, which has been carbon neutral since 2020, has a number of new CSR objectives set for 2025, including plans to further reduce its carbon footprint by 30%. Other goals include becoming 100% plastic neutral, which will include putting new recycling and offset programs into place and reducing plastic usage by 30%; making all Clarins ingredients 100% sustainably sourced, with 100% traceability and reinforced fair-trade programs; making over 80% of the ingredients used in Clarins formulas certified organic; and making the company's sun care collection and rinse-off formulas 100% biodegradable.

Courtin-Clarins will also continue the company's cause-based partnerships with organizations like 'Feed,' an impact driven lifestyle brand that provides school meals to vulnerable communities for every product they sell, as well as Pur Projet's reforestation initiatives and Plastic Odyssey's oceanic waste cleanup campaign.

"Today, it is simply not enough to look at reducing our impact," said Courtin-Clarins. "We have to be more ambitious and proactive in order to truly be able to pass a healthy and beautiful world on to future generations."

"Both as a family and a company, we are determined and inspired to progress, to do more and to enjoy doing so."

Founded in 1954, Clarins' skincare products for face, body, men's and makeup are distributed in more than 140 countries.
