The son of Gert Boyle, the businesswoman who grew Columbia into multibillion-dollar business, Tim Boyle has served as Columbia's chief executive officer since 1988. He reassumed the role of the company's president in 2017, after having previously held the role until 2015. Boyle oversees Columbia's operations from the company's Portland, Oregon headquarters.

A company that has remained in the family throughout its rapid growth, Columbia sees Boyle rise to the chairman role after Sarah Bany, Gert Boyle's daughter, resigned from her spot on the board of directors in December 2019.

In addition, the company's board appointed longtime member, Andy Bryant, to the role of lead independent director. He has served on Columbia's board since 2005, and currently chairs the company's nominating and corporate governance committee. Previously, Bryant served as chairman of the board of Intel Corporation from May 2012 to January 2020. He will be stepping down from Intel’s board following Intel’s 2020 Annual Stockholders’ meeting.

“We feel fortunate to have a seasoned leader like [Bryant] as a strong independent voice on our board," said Boyle. "[His] wealth of experience at Intel has led him to be a source of tremendous insight for our board and I look forward to working even closer with him as he serves as lead independent director."

Founded in 1938, Columbia's portfolio of brands are currently sold in approximately 90 countries, with brands including the Columbia brand, Mountain Hardwear, Sorel and Prana
