Contempora is constantly looking for opportunities to contribute to continuous improvement.

Founded in 1972, Contempora is an employee-owned circular knit company based in Lumberton, NC.

Starting as a contract knitter, Contempora has evolved into a premier knit fabric manufacturer in the United States. With over 200 machines and a capacity of over 3 million pounds per month, Contempora continues to evolve and grow to support the success of its customers.

Contempora’s vast product line is composed of single and double-knit constructions in gauges ranging from coarse to fine. Since 2015, Contempora has purchased 55 knitting machines. These investments have increased capacity by over 25% while reducing energy usage incrementally.

Contempora is committed to applying sustainable practices to every aspect of its business. It is Contempora’s goal to become a leader in the sustainable production of knit goods and to push the industry toward the move to a more environmentally friendly future.

Contempora produces quality knit fabrics for a wide variety of markets. Contempora’s customers produce apparel for team sports, performance athletics and corporate identity. While most of its fabrics are supplied for apparel, Contempora services customers in industrial end-uses.

Contempora continues to strive toward applying green practices in all aspects of manufacturing because it is the right thing to do. Contempora is dedicated to becoming a leader in sustainable knit fabric production and will continue to push the industry to do the same.

The U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol®—a sustainable answer for the manufacturing industry

By joining the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol, Contempora furthered its commitment to sourcing sustainably produced cotton with supply chain transparency.

The Trust Protocol is the only system that provides quantifiable, verifiable goals and measurement and drives continuous improvement in six key sustainability metrics: land use, soil carbon, water management, soil loss, greenhouse gas emissions and energy efficiency. It is also the world’s first sustainable cotton fiber program to offer article-level supply chain transparency to all members.

In addition to directly supporting seven of the 2025 UN Sustainable Goals, the Trust Protocol is recognized by Textile Exchange and Forum for the Future. It is also a participant of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, Cotton 2025 Sustainable Cotton Challenge, Cotton 2040 and Cotton Up initiatives.

Its core values focus on U.S. cotton’s legacy of authenticity, innovation, excellence, environmental stewardship, caring of people, and personal and corporate integrity with a Theory of Change that is grounded in science-based measurement and feedback.

Brands and retailers worldwide can confidently source fabrics from Contempora knowing it is a supply-chain member of the Trust Protocol and is dedicated to continuous improvement.
