Reacting to how relaxed Southern Californian style has turned, costume designer Erica Nicotra O’Neill has launched Lavinia & Co, to bring back dresses into casual LA wardrobes.

The designer and commercial stylist got her inspiration from her Italian grandmother’s dress style. O’Neill noted that she was over the “casual lifestyle” looks that are synonymous with LA style.

She explained, “I started feeling like there’s this cult of [tees] and sweats. Dresses have become like dress-up as opposed to normal things to wear,” said Nicotra O’Nell.

Her line is named after her children, Lavinia and Cassius O’Neill, or “Co.” The brand’s website explains that “the designs pay homage to [O’Neill’s grandmother’s] generation’s great style, but are meant to feel contemporary at the same time.”

The collection launched this past weekend at a Laurel Canyon house party, as well as online. Celebrities Marisa Tomei and Minnie Driver have already expressed enthusiasm for the line and were present at the launch party.

The launch collection contains dresses in 3 styles: Annabel, Rooney and the Cottage Smock pinafore. Pricepoints range from $79 for the smock to $345 for an eyelet Annabel.
