David Naman has his sights set on the US. The designer launched his namesake label in the US at the Liberty Fairs show in New York City in July alongside its brother brand Paul Taylor.

Naman founded his eponymous brand in 1996 and launched tailoring brand Paul Taylor 12 years later. After expanding in Italy, China and throughout Europe, he felt that now is the best time to launch in the US. David Naman currently operates 100 stores worldwide with 47 stores in China, 38 in Italy, and locations in England, Belgium, Greece, Germany and France.

“It was my dream to launch in the US,” said Naman. “Our strategy is to sell to department stores, see the response of the market and then open our own stores.”

The David Naman brand offers all product categories for men including ready-to-wear, leisure, footwear, accessories and fragrance, which has performed very well for the brand. The You First scent is the brand’s very first fragrance, and according to Jon McKinney, President of North America at David Naman, the brand was hesitant to launch another fragrance because they didn’t want to hinder the first scent’s sales.

While David Naman is targeted towards a younger customer, Paul Taylor is targeted towards a well-traveled gentleman.

“I wanted to launch Paul Taylor to complement David Naman, together they take a niche market,” said Naman. “The age is different—David Naman is younger than Paul Taylor, but Paul Taylor is more cultured. David Naman is someone that lives the nightlife while Paul Taylor is a family man that doesn’t want to be sedentary.”

Paul Taylor is available only in Italy, Belgium and France, but Naman sees great potential for the brand in the US.

David Naman also presented his namesake label at New York Men’s Day during New York Fashion Week: Men’s.
