Bal, often described by the Indian media as the "bad boy of fashion", underwent angioplasty at a Gurgaon hospital on Tuesday 23 February.
"He is better now. He will be kept under observation for a couple more days before doctors decide when he can leave (hospital)," a spokesman for the designer told Reuters.
Bal, who is known for his flamboyant designs, has held shows in New York, London and Paris and has been described by Time magazine as "India's Master of fabric and fantasy".
