DSW expands overseas to Middle East

Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW) has opened its first store outside of North America at the Muscat Grand Mall in Oman.

DSW is working with Dubai-based Apparel Group in the region, a global conglomerate that operates regional franchises for 65 brands across retail and lifestyle channels in the Middle East. It operates 1,750 locations.

Simon Nankervis, Chief Commercial Officer for DSW Inc. stated, "We are excited to create the largest footwear retail destination in the region."

So far DSW reports that consumer response has been positive. Brands carried in the new Oman location include DSW staples Nike, Toms, Adidas and Birkenstock. Sandals, dress, casual and athletic categories are all represented in the new location.

DSW operates over 1,000 locations in North America. Nankervis said the store in Oman is the first in a series of upcoming openings for the region in partnership with Apparel Group. The strategic plan is to introduce the DSW brand to new customers and new markets over the next five years.

The new Oman location is on Dohat al Adab Street in Muscat and is now open.
