Elected in mid-July as the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker received an open letter from E-commerce Europe. Even though the new team, which is still being reshuffled, is scheduled to take up its function on 3 November, its President is being asked to quickly put a single digital market in place.

"We hope that, with the Commissioners-designate, you will, as a real "Digital President", be able to lead the European Union to the quick and all-encompassing completion of the single digital market," writes François Momboisse, President of E-commerce Europe in a letter.

Making a reminder that direct European sales are currently at 360 billion euros, Mr. Bomboise highlights that "a single digital market" could prolong this growth by unblocking the potential of cross-border trade and by creating hundreds of thousands of direct and indirect jobs in diverse sectors, such as mail distribution and Information and communications technology (ICT)."

Pointing out the political obstacles currently in place between the Commission, the Member States and the European Parliament, François Momboisse expressed his confidence in the structure put in place by Jean-Claude Juncker. Particularly the appointment of a vice-president in charge of the single digital market, the new President advocating an integrated approach of digital matters.

E-commerce Europe is an association of national federations of European e-commerce. Its network brings together 25,000 companies presiding in 16 countries. Highly awaited, Germany joined the association this September via the Händlerbund trade group.
