E-commerce: Amazon seeking Indian Jabong
Nov 28, 2014
The American giant of online sales is currently negotiating the acquisition of Jabong, one of the main Indian portals, dedicated to clothing and shoes sales.

The value of this purchase is estimated at between 1.1 and 1.2 billion dollars. According to the Indian press, if the acquisition goes through, it will be the biggest acquisition in the history of local e-commerce. The group will nevertheless have to take into account the presence of German venture capital firm Rocket Internet (Zalando) among the financial support for the Indian portal.
As a foreign company, Amazon cannot invest directly in the e-commerce company. The operation would be done via a separate structure, in order to get around a decidedly complex Indian law for international companies.
With 200 million customers, Amazon achieved 69 billion dollars in revenue in 2013, up 22% compared to 2012.
