Eileen Fisher exhibition showcases transformation of old designs

Published
Sep 20, 2017

In partnership with Eileen Fisher, The Invisible Dog Art Center in Brooklyn is unveiling Circular Design, a new installation that showcases how 800,000 pieces of the designer’s clothing—acquired from 2009—were transformed into completely new pieces via the brand’s Renew program.

The Circular Design exhibition will run through October 1. - Eileen Fisher

Consumers are invited to bring back their old Eileen Fisher wares so they can be reconstructed into something else— even scraps are used in this process—to be resold online and select Eileen Fisher stores. If the clothes are in relatively good condition (a moth hole in a sweater for example), they’ll be saved, mended, and restored to a good condition. Net profits from the sale of renewed clothes go to programs that support positive change for women, girls and the environment.

The goal of both the program and the installation, open September 21 through October 1, is to encourage sustainability within the apparel industry.

The designer founded her eponymous brand in 1984. In 2015, Forbes valued the company at $210 million. The label currently counts over 60 stores across the United States, in addition to a factory in New York, where the regeneration takes place.
