Embroiderer Lesage (Chanel) acquires a weaving atelier

Embroiderer Lesage, which belongs to Chanel, announced on Friday the acquisition of one of its suppliers, ACT 3, a producer of tweed fabrics in the southwest of France.

ACT 3 (Association Création Textile) thus joins the Chanel subsidiary dedicated to the crafts trades, Paraffection, which since 1985 has bought ten or so ateliers (embroiderers, feather workers, boot maker...) linked to haute couture.

Located in Jurançon (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), with 16 employees, ACT 3 is specialised in the creation, production and commercialisation of fabrics and tweeds destined for ready-to-wear and couture houses, but also accessories and decoration, specified Lesage.

It thus becomes a subsidiary of the famous embroidery house, its main customer, which it has worked with since 2003 on the creation of tweeds, notably popular with Chanel's tailors.

"ACT 3 offers exceptional and rare know-how required to make the Lesage creations which associate new materials (sequins, organza, ribbons, leather laces, etc.) that make up the inimitable signature and originality of the Maison Lesage tweeds," said Bruno Pavlovsky, President of Lesage and the head of Chanel's fashion activities.

The acquisition was made on the initiative of ACT 3's President, Maria Messner, with the aim of "developing and expanding the structure" which, after difficulties in 2009, "is doing very very well," and of "creating jobs locally," she explained to the AFP.

ACT 3 is continuing its collaborations with all of its current customers in the fashion and decoration world, specified Lesage.

The embroidery house created by François Lesage was bought in 2002 by Chanel, like other arts brands, including crafts maker Desrues (buttons, jewellery, etc.), feather worker Lemarié, milliner Maison Michel, and boot maker Massaro.

These craft trades are highlighted in a collection that will be presented by Karl Lagerfeld on Tuesday in Salzburg, Austria.
