Equinox and Nick Knight debut 'Life' short film

Equinox has debuted a new short film, "Life", directed by fashion photographer Nick Knight and his fashion platform Showstudio, featuring celebrities like Ciara, models Maria Borges, Hannah Ferguson, Richard Ampaw and Jazzelle Zanaughtti (also known as @uglyworldwide on Instagram), among others.

According to a press release, the new film celebrates the luxury fitness company's "continued exploration of the world beyond fitness, re-envisioning Equinox's emblematic 'It's Not Fitness, It's Life' mantra."

In Life, the film's stars embody Equinox and Knight's building blocks of life: love, water, spirit, energy, and light. The short opens with Ciara dancing to embody spirit; shows Maria Borges traveling through a glowing futuristic landscape for light; captures Zanaughtti and her partner Sadiq Nasir kissing underwater to embody love. Notably, none of the film takes place in a gym, in a push to emphasise Equinox as a lifestyle.

"Knowing that the articulation of 'Life' itself is not an easy brief, I was excited to collaborate with Nick Knight because his whole body of work is about using the visual to explain the emotion of a moment or concept," said Elizabeth Nolan, executive creative director at Equinox.

"I was very interested in working with Equinox on the idea of 'Life' and what that means, and for me, that was about exploring some of the different building blocks of life—some physical and some more elemental," Knight added. "The Equinox brand and product is all about building and celebrating a life well-lived, and I wanted the work to be representative of that sentiment."

Equinox said the new film marks the first in a series of collaborations between the luxury fitness company and Knight, as the company expands its business from elite fitness centers to hotels and travel experiences, among other initiatives for 2019.
