Escada is seriously considering launching a menswear collection. Bruno Sälzer, the womenswear label’s director who spent more than ten years at the head of Hugo Boss, has given an interview to Welt am Sonntag in which he declared, “I can very easily picture suits by Escada. Our plans for that are already under way and I’m testing some prototypes”.

The launch could conceivably take place as of 2013. Escada, the former jewel in the crown of German womenswear, filed a petition for bankruptcy in 2009 before being taken over by Megha Mittal, daughter-in-law of Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal.

For its director, the different phases of its reorganization are all either completed or under way. Last year turnover increased by 7% to around 300 million euros.

Whilst at Hugo Boss, Bruno Sälzer took a step in the other direction by launching a womenswear collection at the beginning of the 21st century. Boss’s current director, Claus-Dietrich Lahrs, is aiming at turnover of 400 million euros by 2015 for its womenswear.
