Ethical Trading Initiative: C&A exec joins team

Published

Philip Chamberlain, head of sustainable business development at C&A Europe, is also joining the Ethical Trading Initiative, an alliance of NGOs, corporations and unions advocating respect for the right of workers across the globe.

The head of C&A was already involved in the Clean Clothes Campaign, bringing together brands that advocate responsible and sustainable production of their products. He has also helped C&A to join the Cotton Connect network, which aims to unite the cotton industry in regards to the use of sustainable materials.

"He brings an in-depth knowledge about the complexity of global supply chains, and experience of working in partnership with diverse groups of stakeholders to improve working conditions," commented ETI director, Peter McAllister. "This is an exciting phase in ETI's development as we finalize our strategy stretching to 2020, and we know we'll benefit tremendously from Philip's stewardship.”

The ETI won renown in 2013 for the publication of a workers’ guide in developing countries, informing workers about their labor rights, and particularly about legal opportunities to organize—a right that is often still repressed in certain major countries in the international textile production.
