Euromed: the foundations of a textile association laid in Greece

A southern European textile association could emerge in 2014/2015. It would unite companies from Catalonia, Tuscany, Greece, Tunisia, Egypt, Palestine and Jordan, the aim being to counteract competition from Turkey and Asia.

All this is according to the Spanish textile association Texfor, which took part in a conference in Thessaloniki, Greece during which the possibility was discussed. The next meeting has already been announced for October 16 - 18 in Tunis.

For now, the group would bring together Texfor, the Industrial Union of Prato, Sepee (Hellenic fashion industry association), Tunisia's Cettex and MFCpole, the Egyptian association Fedcoc, Upti, which brings together professionals from Bethlehem, and Jgate from Jordan.

Dubbed Tex-Med Cluster, the project will, according to Europa Press, receive as much as 1.7 million euros from the European Union, companies from the eight participating countries, meanwhile, obliged to bring 300,000 euros to the table.
