News, conferences and awards: from October 2-3, Eurosima brought together the surf industry for its thirteenth edition of Surf Summit in Seignosse. As part of the Surfing Lounge exhibit, forty brands presented innovative products as part of the Surfing Lounge, and various conferences allowed some 250 industry players to discuss the future of the boardsports industry.

The two-day event was punctuated by a surf industry awards ceremony. The Eurosima Innovation Award 2014, worth 5,000 euros, was given to Newtis Innovation for their polycarbonate laminating machine for surfboards.

“The lamination process is much faster and the work environment is much healthier for the shaper (no more dust, no more toxic fumes),” explained Eurosima. “What’s more, the polycarbonate gives the surfboard extreme strength and makes the board customizable. PKS boards (by PUKAS) are marketed by the European distributor Olatu, which is aiming to have 1,600 boards sold in 2015.”

This year’s awards for athletes went to Justine Dupont for women and Michel Bourez for men. Finally, Eurosima granted an honorary award to Greg Long, a big wave surfer. He has been recognized for "his commitment and tenacity."
