Evian joins Virgil Abloh for limited-edition water bottle collection, launching €50K grant contest

Off-White founder, Virgil Abloh, and Evian have teamed up for a collection of limited-edition water bottles, debuted alongside the launch of Evian's 'Activate Movement Program' grant contest.

Focused on sustainability, the 'Activate Movement' collection consists of two Evian SOMA refillable bottles designed by a creative team led by Abloh, who was appointed to the role of Evian creative advisor in 2018.

Featuring a looping droplet design, the bottles mark the second bottle drop from Abloh and Evian, who first released a line of sustainable bottles in 2019.

While the stylish bottles carry all the pull of the Abloh's name, the collaboration's greater goal is to tap into today's 'younger generation' and encourage them to make changes, particularly when it comes to creating a sustainable future.

“I believe that every little thing you do can change the status quo,” Abloh said. “That’s what inspired the ‘Activate Movement’ collection because a single drop can be the starting point of positive change. Every idea has to start somewhere, so we were thinking what if we could create that place? A place to empower the new generation.”

To support that goal, the Active Movement Program contest will give a €50,000 (over $54,000 USD) grant to the winner, to be used to create sustainable design solutions. The contest is open to applicants between 18 and 35 years of age, who will be judged by Evian, Abloh and a panel of experts.

The contest's application will remain open through March 31, 2020. Each Active Movement bottle includes a QR code that will bring the consumer to the Active Movement Program contest website.

“The Evian brand is strongly engaged in environmental ambitions through our circular pledge," said Shweta Harit, Evian global brand VP. "We believe in the new generation that looks up to Virgil Abloh and have great hopes to engage with them as part of this program to highlight the importance of sustainable design today.”

The collaboration was celebrated during New York Fashion Week, at an event that featured a a short film starring Abloh and the staff of Alaska Alaska, a newly formed research and development arm of Abloh’s art and industrial practices.
