Fashion icon Tom Ford to make second movie this year

Fashion titan Tom Ford has revealed he plans to shoot his second movie later this year, following the critical success of his debut 2009 feature film "A Single Man."

Ford wowed an A-list crowd in Los Angeles on Friday by taking the unusual step of staging his London Fashion Week fall/winter show in the heart of Hollywood as the movie industry gathers for Sunday's Oscars.

The American designer made a successful foray into film-making five years ago with "A Single Man," a drama based on Christopher Isherwood's novel of the same name, which earned an Oscar nomination for British actor Colin Firth.

Ford told AFP at Friday's show that he is now planning to go behind the camera once more later this year.

"I'm in the middle of casting it and plan to shoot it in the fall," he told AFP. "I'm excited because it's been too long.

"But I have a business and I have a son and I promised myself I would wait till he's three to make a new movie. Well, he's turning three in the fall."

The guest list of celebrity VIPs at Ford's show on Friday read like a who's who of Hollywood, and included Julianne Moore, who starred in "A Single Man" and who is a heavy favorite to win this year's best actress Oscar for her performance in "Still Alice."

Other stars of the silverscreen in attendance included Gwyneth Paltrow, Amy Adams and Scarlett Johansson, as well as a bevy of icons from the music world including Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce and Jay-Z and Elton John.

Ford said moving his show from London -- initially planned for Monday, one day after the Oscars -- was a no-brainer.

Although he envisaged the decision as a one-off, he did not rule out the possibility of staging the event in Los Angeles again.

"My show in London would have fallen the morning of the Oscars -- it made no sense in the world that I would try to compete with the Oscars with all the global press," Ford said.

"I'm a California resident, I have a house here, I'm usually in Los Angeles this week dressing someone for the Oscars, so I thought why don't I just show in LA?" he said.

"I thought it was a one-off thing but now I have to take a little distance from it. Was it good? Could I recreate it? Did (people) love it so much they would come again every year?"
