Following Milan, as of Tuesday Paris will welcome nine days of ready-to-wear Fall/Winter women’s runway presentations. The event will be market by the debut of Balenciaga’s new Georgian Creative Director, Demna Gvasalia, following the departure of American designer Alexander Wang.

The designer who has served at Maison Margiela and Louis Vuitton, is also the head designer of the young brand Vetements, which has made waves over the last couple of years with its streetwear-inspired oversized designs.

A bold choice for the almost 100-year-old fashion house, founded by Cristobal Balenciaga, making its Sunday reveal widely anticipated.

On the other side, Dior, Lanvin and Leonard, are still waiting to name Artistic Directors following the sudden departures of stylists which agitated Paris fashion at the end of 2015. They will present collections created by their studio creations teams.

Paris Fashion Week, which includes 92 runway shows from 25 countries, is taking place in the midst of a conversation questioning the traditional fashion calendar in an age of social media.

New York Fashion Week organizers are considering runway presentations that are more geared towards consumers and that feature clothing immediately available for sale, as opposed to the usual six-month lag. Many brands like Burberry and Tom Ford have already taken the plunge.

Besides the big names that have made its reputation, Paris Fashion Week is welcoming five newcomers to its official programming. Two will take the runway the first day, on Tuesday: Dutch designer Liselore Frowijn, who brought home the 2014 Chloé award at the Fashion Festival of Hyères, as well as the brand Y/Project headed by Belgium designer Glenn Martens.

Another Dutch designer, Dorhout Mees, will make their debut on the Parisian runway on Sunday. What’s more, the label, Off White, headed by American designer Virgil Abloh and a 2015 finalist of the LVMH prize as well as Kanye West’s fashion adviser, will showcase on March 8, while the brand Paskal, by Ukranien designer Julie Paskal will take the runway on the last day, March 9.
