Foot Locker opens debut North American Power Store in Metro Detroit

New York-based sports and footwear retailer Foot Locker, Inc. is opening its first North American ‘Power Store’ in Eastpointe, Michigan, an 8,500-square-foot retail location which aims to be a hub for the local sneakerhead community.

 
The store offers apparel, footwear and accessories for men, women and children, and features a women’s shop-in-shop and a Kids Foot Locker.
 
Just like the retailer’s other Power Store locations, the Metro Detroit store has been tailored to suit the local community and features custom art from Detroit artist Désirée Kelly and an activation space which will play host to a range of sneaker-focused events.

Upcoming activations and events at the store include “Women’s Culture Wednesday” on January 30, which will feature a panel discussion with Désirée Kelly and Femology founder Meagan Ward, and “Puma Cell Science Lab” on February 1, which will involve a Q&A session with Detroit-born rapper Big Sean, as well as a community giveback.
 
“It's our goal at Foot Locker to bring the excitement of sneaker culture to local communities around the world, and that's what our new Power Store model is all about,” explained Frank Bracken, Foot Locker VP and general manager, in a release. “We're focused on creating immersive brand connections that are authentically tied to the neighborhoods they serve; from the local store staff that we hire to the products and experiences we offer.”
 
In keeping with this local focus, the store will also offer exclusive Detroit-specific products, such as the Adidas AM4DET – a SpeedFactory shoe designed by Detroit native Kayla Donaldson –, Nike’s “Home & Away” collection, Detroit vs. Everybody apparel, New Era hats and Herschel bags, among others.
 
Foot Locker debuted the Power Store model in the UK, opening locations in London and Liverpool in summer 2018, before taking the concept to Hong Kong. The company has plans to open over a dozen more of the stores this year, with future US locations slated for Los Angeles, New York and Philadelphia.
