Francine Klein to retire from Bloomingdale's

Published
Jan 30, 2020

After over 40 years at the luxury department store chain, Francine Klein is reportedly stepping down from her role as EVP and general merchandise manager for handbags, shoes, fine jewelry, fashion accessories and beauty at Bloomingdale’s.

Klein was responsible for introducing a range of new brands and concepts to Bloomingdale's

Klein began her career as a sales associate in the Bloomingdale’s store in Short Hills, New Jersey in 1975 and went on to join the company’s executive training program. In 1986 she became operating VP for fashion accessories, before leaving Bloomingdale’s to serve as president of Parklane in 1987.

She returned to Bloomingdale’s in 1992, stepping into the position of operating VP for the Tyson’s Corner Store. Following a range of roles in stores and merchandise, Klein became VP and general merchandise manager for fashion accessories, intimate apparel and cosmetics for Bloomingdale’s in 2004, gradually adding further responsibilities until she arrived at her current position.

The executive has played an integral role in introducing new concepts and brands to the department store retailer. Some of her most recent contributions include overseeing the rehauls of the footwear and beauty floors at the Bloomingdale’s 59th street flagship in 2018.

“Francine has been a driving force in the evolution of Bloomingdale’s and her legacy is one that has shaped who we are today,” commented Tony Spring, chairman and CEO of Bloomingdale’s, in a statement. “Francine has been an integral part in our growth and has made an immeasurable impact on Bloomingdale’s and the retail industry.”

As reported by multiple sources, Klein will be succeeded by Stacie Borteck, who currently serves as VP and divisional merchandise manager of cosmetics and fragrances.

Borteck first joined Bloomingdale’s in 2007 and has since served as manager of planning and distribution for cosmetics and fine jewelry, and operating VP and divisional merchandise manager for handbags, shoes, intimate apparel, fashion accessories and cosmetics for Bloomingdales.com.

Prior to joining Bloomingdales, the graduate of the University of Michigan worked at Lord & Taylor for six years.

In her new role, Borteck will report to Spring, as will Michelle Israel, who continues in her role as SVP of off-price at Bloomingdale’s.

Borteck’s promotion is effective February 3, while Klein will officially be leaving Bloomingdale’s on February 28.
