G-Star Raw in June unveiled its G-Star Raw Research SS17 capsule collection by Aitor Throup, and this month the company released a second look of the collection.

The capsule collection explores the lifespan of denim fabrics and its extremes like its rigid, raw state and a bleached, white state. The 20-piece collection consists of a denim jacket with back straps, a parka with a detachable backpack, and jeans with hidden pockets among other styles.

“I first started working with G-Star because I recognized that a big part of their success had resulted from taking risks and challenging the conventions of denim,” said Throup. “After collaborating in a brand-wide capacity for a couple of years, we took a mutual and logical decision to set up a research and innovation lab within the company; with its own dedicated team of specialists focused on researching new possibilities for denim and denim-related products.”

The G-Star Raw Research capsule is the company’s latest innovative project. G-Star co-owner Pharrell Williams worked with the company on the Raw for the Oceans project two years prior to becoming co-owner. The project transformed recycled ocean plastic to denim. Pharrell recently fronted the company’s Autumn/Winter 2016 “What is Raw?” campaign that launches on September 1.

G-Star Raw Research will launch in November 2016.
