Gabriela Hearst opens first flagship in New York City

Known for creating sustainable apparel through a luxury lens, designer Gabriela Hearst has opened the first boutique for her eponymous label at 985 Madison Avenue, adjoining the Carlyle Hotel.

The 1,900-square-foot flagship marks the first store to permanently sell the entire range of Gabriela Hearst women’s ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories, as well as handbags, which were previously only available by email request. The store will also feature an exclusive range of the brand's newest jewelry, in addition to a semi-bespoke service.
At the connecting point between the boutique and the historic hotel, shoppers can find a jewel-box inspired display case of the label's handbags.
A collaboration between Hearst and Zaher Katerji, principal and lead architect at Zari Architects, the store's interior design follows the brand's commitment to eco-consciousness and luxury. Featuring interior walls with cashmere panels, knitwear drawers made from recycled oak, and cotton velvet banquets, all furniture and features were made without synthetic products or chemicals.
Moving to the back of the flagship, shoppers will find fitting rooms with motion-activated, self-dimming lights for energy efficiency, a bathroom equipped with a custom Vena d’Oro marble sink, and a u-shaped, white cashmere sofa made by Istanbul-based design firm Autoban.
Now three and a half years old, the brand has yet to announce future plans for additional brick-and-mortar locations.
