Gap collaborates with black artists for Black History Month

Published
Oct 5, 2020

Gap has released a t-shirt collection designed by black artists from the UK, France and the US to celebrate Black History Month.

The brand worked with four young artists to design the collection - Gap

The fashion brand enlisted Mario Hounkanrin, Melissa Hurst, Lo Williams and Stephennie Factor to come up with designs that represent what Black History means to them.

The result is a capsule collection of graphic tees depicting the spirit of activism through powerful images and messages like ‘Stand united’ and ‘Black is my happy colour’.

The initiative is one of several projects the retailer is working on to amplify black voices and support black artists as part of its Black Lives Matter commitments.

Among other things, Gap said it will donate £10,000 to the CNBA Foundation, which creates opportunities in Media & Arts for 13-27 year-olds in the BAME community through rehabilitation, mentorships, education and scholarship opportunities.

And this month, Gap customers will be able to support The Reach Out Project, a mentoring programme for inner-city London boys, through till point donations. The charity was founded by friends Lillian and Michaela and it focuses on providing young black individuals with the tools to realise their potential and overcome adversity.
