Garrett Leight California Optical on Thursday opened the doors to its first boutique in New York City on 149 Grand Street in SoHo. The New York City boutique is the first from the eyewear brand to open on the eastern US.
The 900-square-foot store designed by founder, Garrett Leight and Architects, West of West features white brick walls and a wooden eyewear display much like the brands other retail locations. The store also features a ‘living wall’ with foliage like succulents and cacti that capture the spirit of the western US where Leight was born and raised.
“Our SoHo store is where the world of Garrett Leight California Optical plays out in a uniquely New York context,” says Leight. “Choosing the right eyewear is a personal experience, and we understand the value in creating an equally personal space for our guests.”
To commemorate the store opening, GLCO produced a limited-edition frame inspired by the late American poet and New York City fixture, Allen Ginsberg. The frames are made with the highest quality materials and production techniques as well as flat base lenses. They are available in four colors and feature ‘Only in New York’ stamped on the inside of the frame. 150 frames have been produced and are available both in the New York City store and on the GLCO website.
The New York City boutique joins two additional Garrett Leight California Optical standalone stores on La Brea in Los Angeles and on Hayes Street in San Francisco.
