Digital-first beauty brand Glossier has reportedly poached Melissa Eamer for its new chief operating officer, tempting the top Amazon executive away after a 19-year stint at the Seattle-based e-commerce giant.
As reported by CNBC on Friday, Eamer will assume responsibility for overseeing the growth-driving parts of Glossier’s business when she joins the company, while the brand’s founder and CEO, Emily Weiss, will maintain her focus on core branding, community building, content and product expansion.
At Amazon, Eamer most recently served as VP for sales and marketing of Amazon devices, having previously filled positions including VP for consumer engagement, VP for sports, outdoors & toys, technical advisor for the company’s consumer business, director of the Kindle Content Store, and director for home & garden.
Before joining Amazon, the executive, who holds an MBA in marketing from the University of Michigan’s Stephen M. Ross School of Business and a BA in English from the University of Vermont, served as marketing manager at Microcosm, Ltd and sales coordinator at Chapters Publishing.
“I am grateful for 19 years at Amazon and very excited to start my next chapter as COO of Glossier,” said Eamer in a post shared on her LinkedIn profile. “The opportunity to work at a customer obsessed beauty company filled with super smart people and a visionary founder seems strangely familiar.”
Founded in 2014, Glossier was valued at $1.2 billion earlier this year, when it secured $100 million in a series D funding round led by Sequioa Capital. Since then, the company, which has a strong millennial following, has been building out its leadership team with a series of strategic executive hires.
In March, Glossier appointed Vanessa Wittman as its new chief financial officer, while later in the same month the brand tapped former Elle.com digital director Leah Chernikoff as its head of content.
As the company pushes forward with its expansion, Glossier also launched its first Glossiwear apparel and accessories collection in July.
