H&M’s charity structure, The H&M Concious Foundation, has received a sizeable donation from the chain’s founder’s son and majority shareholder, Stefan Persson. The Swedish retailer has decided to ask customers and employees to vote to determine the three most important issues to be tackled with €67 million donation over the coming years.

Clients and employees will be able to vote on five key issues from October 22 until October 29 on the company’s website, makeadifference.hm.com, to decide which of the problems should be addressed.

The H&M Conscious Foundation has consulted a number of experts, selected for their commitment within different development issues, about which global challenges they find most immediate. Clean water, strengthening women, safeguarding natural resources, education and reduction of poverty through self-empowerment are the five most prioritised.

Once the top three issues are decided, the foundation will partner with three world-renowned organisations to globally address these issues. Additionally, the foundation will initiate local programmes in countries where H&M operates, mirroring the themes selected by the voting.
