Chinese hair accessories company Tan Mujiang is eyeing the Canadian market with the opening of its first flagship store in the country.

The flagship opened this month at the Scarborough shopping center in Toronto and is only the company’s second store overseas, following the opening of its store at Hong Kong Telford Plaza earlier this year.

The Canadian flagship is dubbed 'H002', and is adjacent to Pandora and other international brand stores found in the mall. The store is hard to miss thanks to its eye-catching Chinese logo.

Tan Mujiang specializes in wooden combs, which are traditionally Chinese, and the firm is the sole-listed company in the global wooden comb industry.

Since December 2013, it has inked more than 80 patents and is now sold across 1,200 shops in mainland China, and via its four stores in Hong Kong and one in Singapore. It is also available to the U.S. and Canadian market via online shops on Amazon and Ebay

The company has plans for its own brick-and-mortar retail expansion, however. Tan Mujiang says it plans to open up to 12 stores overseas this year by operating franchises. It has set up a national general franchising model and hopes to find franchisees who are interested in their brand.

"Our goal is to popularize our brand by operating our own franchise shops all over the world and not only get orders from overseas businessmen," explained Zhang Chuanjin, offline market director.

The company will equally be focused on increasing brand promotion overseas including by participating in international exhibitions to grow its brand awareness abroad.
