Harlem’s Fashion Row (HFR), an arts and entertainment organization dedicated to supporting emerging fashion designers of color, has expanded its platform with the launch of the ‘In the Black’ e-boutique.
Conceived by Brandice Daniel, founder and owner of HFR, In the Black is an online shop carrying a curated selection of merchandise made by designers of color.
Announced on September 5 during HFR’s 12th Annual Fashion Show and Style Awards dinner, In the Black’s first launch features pieces from Undra Celeste New York, one of the designers that worked on the HFR x LeBron James collaboration for Nike, as well as designers that presented during the night’s fashion show.
Some of the designers available to shop via In the Black include Bishme Cromartie, Prep Curry, Kapasa Musonda and Miko Underwood.
According to a press statement, new styles and designs will be added to the e-boutique every eight weeks.
Daniel, who founded HFR in 2007, said In the Black is a natural next step for her organization, as it continues to provide resources to those interested in promoting designers of color.
"For 12 years we’ve been the driving force behind fashion lovers to support and shop designers of color,” Daniel said. “HFR is finally incorporating a way for them do so. While our New York fashion shows features the collections of apparel designers, we’ve designed an e-commerce site curating pieces that include apparel and accessories.”
Surrounding the announcement of In the Black, the HFR event celebrated several members of the fashion community, honoring singer Ciara with the Icon 360 Award; Mobolaji Dawodu, GQ and GQ Style fashion director with the Maverick of the Year Award; Mikki Taylor, the editor-at-large of Essence, with the Lifetime Editor Award and Law Roach with the Stylist of the Year Award.
