Hermès' "Wanderland" exhibition opens in London

Published
Apr 9, 2015

The newest exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in London's upmarket Chelsea area, "Wanderland," is dedicated to flânerie, the art of "urban wandering", and showcases objects from the French fashion house Hermès´archives.

Saatchi Gallery

The exhibition is spread out over 11 rooms and features a series of installations in various media, created by a number of artists and set against a backdrop of a Paris-inspired landscape. It was created by Bruno Gaudichon, curator of La Piscine-Musée d'Art et d'Industrie in Roubaix, and includes objects from the Hermès archive, the museum collection of Emile Hermès at 24 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris, and Hermès’ contemporary collections.

“The journey through Wanderland draws its coherence from two intrinsic elements of la flânerie: dreaming and freedom of spirit,” explains Bruno Gaudichon.

“Flânerie, that wonderfully liberating art of urban wandering, is second nature to Hermès, one could even say our most profound nature,” says Pierre-Alexis Dumas, the house’s Artistic Director and sixth generation member, evoking the 2015 Hermès theme.

The exhibition will run in London from April 9 to May 2 and be followed by runs in Paris, Italy and China as of the fall.
