HK shares open up 0.97 pct; Esprit, Li & Fung up

HONG KONG, Dec 22 (Reuters) - Hong Kong shares opened 0.97 percent higher, tracking firmer overseas markets and ending five straight session of losses, led by consumer-related issues.

Esprit

Fashion group Esprit (0330.HK) was set to advance 2.86 percent, and exporter Li & Fung (0494.HK) was up 1.58 percent.

Chinese lender ICBC (1398.HK) was up 1.47 percent and China Life (2628.HK) gained 1.65 percent.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index .HSI opened 203.75 points higher at 21,151.85, rebounding from a 2-½ month closing low on Monday 21 December.

The China Enterprises Index .HSCE of top locally listed mainland Chinese stocks rose 1.07 percent to 12,334.10. (Reporting by Donny Kwok; Editing by Chris Lewis)
