It's worth over GBP100 million, it's regarded as the world's most famous diamond, part of the United Kingdom's crown jewels, but India wants it back.

The dispute between Great Britain and its former colony is flaring up again for that most famous of gems, the Koh-i-noor. A group of Indian activists - among them artists, writers and Bollywood stars - filed a legal claim to recover the gem, which was arguably "stolen in dubious circumstances, as many other Indian artefacts were."

The Independent newspaper, when reporting the news, reminded readers that the gem was worn by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother on the day of her husband's King George VI's coronation, and then by Queen Elizabeth II when she was crowned in 1953.
