As part of the 60th edition of ModaLisboa, Sangue Novo once again recognised young talent. With the support of the Portuguese brand Seaside, the platform held the second and final stage of its competition, holding a unique fashion show in which five up-and-coming designers took part.

Two names from among the finalists were recognised on March 10 after the runway show. Inês Barreto, who presented her collection 'Let Us Eat Cake' which featured pastel tones and latex fabrics, was awarded the ModaLisboa x IED - Instituto Europeo di Design prize.

Barreto will be given the opportunity to study a master's degree in fashion design at the Italian institute, worth 20,000 euros, as well as the opportunity to present her capsule collection on the ModaLisboa Workstation platform. The award also includes a grant of 4,000 euros and mentoring by the Associação ModaLisboa.

Meanwhile, the ModaLisboa x Tintex Textiles prize was awarded to the designer born in São Tomé and Príncipe, Niuka Oliveira, who presented her capsule entitled 'Self knowledge' on the catwalk. The collection featured experimental cuts and white, black and deep red looks, as well as some all-blue ensembles.

This award will allow her to carry out a three-week artistic residency at Tintex, as well as to present her collection on the ModaLisboa Workstation platform. She will also receive mentoring by the Associação ModaLisboa and a grant of 1,500 euros.

Finally, the two designers also received the ModaLisboa x Showpress award, through which they will benefit from press and showroom consultancy services at the Showpress communications agency for the duration of one season.

The winners were selected by a jury made up of Miguel Flor, creative director and editor-in-chief of Prinçipal ModaPortugal magazine, who acted as jury president; fashion consultant Elisa Nalin; Joana Duarte, founder and designer of the brand Béhen; ModaLisboa project manager Joana Jorge; Olivia Spinelli, head of fashion design at IED Milano; Pedro Silva, head of industrialisation at Tintex Textiles; and Sara Sozzani Maino, head of special projects at Vogue Italia and international brand ambassador for the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana.

All the collections presented by the five participants were produced with materials provided by Calvelex/Fabrics4Fashion, Riopele and Tintex Textile, textile partners of the ModaLisboa Association. Also among the finalists were experimental artist Çal Pfungst; Darya Fesenko, who creates her pieces using upcycled materials and draws inspiration from social issues; and streetwear brand Molly98, founded by designer Maria Duque in late 2019.

The latest edition of ModaLisboa took place between March 9 and 12 at the Lisboa Social Mitra space, the innovation hub located in Lisbon's Santa Casa da Misericórdia. Organised with the support of the Lisbon City Council, the event's main theme was 'Core', through which they wanted to focus on the essence of the event itself.
