Introduction of sharia: Kering CEO also to boycott Sultan of Brunei’s hotels

© 2014 AFP - François-Henri Pinault, CEO of the luxury group Kering as well as president of the foundation Kering for Women, condemned on Friday via twitter the decision of the Sultan of Brunei to introduce sharia and called for a boycott of his hotels around the world.

"As president of Kering Foundation, which combats violence against women, I firmly condemn the sultan of Brunei's decision and join the boycott of his hotel properties,” tweeted François-Henri Pinault.

François-Henri Pinault is the first Western businessman to take a stand, loyal to his convictions

The boycott will target the Dorchester Collection chain of hotels, which includes the upscale Dorchester in London and Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles, as well as the Plaza Athénée and Le Meurice in Paris.

It extends "to all Kering’s employees and brands" (Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Saint Laurent, Brioni, Boucheron, Stella McCartney, and the sports brand Puma).

The Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, one of the richest men in the world, announced on April 30 the gradual implementation of Islamic law in his country.

Richard Branson announced this weekend that he is banning his staff from staying at Dorchester Collection hotels.

The American British comedian Stephen Fry and TV host Ellen DeGeneres have also indicated that they will no longer patronize the chain.

The Dorchester Collection belongs to the Brunei Investment Agency, a government-owned corporation controlled by the Ministry of Finance of Brunei.
