Issey Miyake opens its first boutique in London

Issey Miyake is investing in London with a new store. The Japanese label closed its historic flagship store on Conduit Street this summer to open a new one this past weekend in a former bank located in the middle of Mayfair, between Bond Street and Hanover Square.

Issey Miyake opens its 2nd store on Brook Street in London

This new retail outlet, which covers nearly 5,400 square feet of space over two levels with nearly 65 feet of shop front windows is located at 10 Brook Street, not far from Issey Miyake's other London store, entirely dedicated to the Pleats Please line and located at n° 20 in the same street, where the house's offices are also found.

The new store offers all of the designer label's collections, apart from Pleats Please. From clothing to accessories and watches to perfume, the entire Issey Miyake universe can be found here, including the Homme Plissé line, until now only available in Japan. There is also a space notably dedicated to the different versions of the Bao Bao bag.

The new Issey Miyake London store was designed by Japanese artist and designer Tokujin Yoshioka

As of next season, clothing made using the Steam Stretch 3D process, the label's new creation unveiled during the latest fashion week in Paris by Yoshiyuki Miyamae, Creative Director of the womenswear collections, will also be introduced.

The store's layout was designed by Japanese artist and designer Tokujin Yoshioka, as were the furniture, the accessories and the chairs. His goal was to above all give value to the brand's creations by working with the materials and combining technology and artisanry in his project. Two elements that characterise Issey Miyake's clothing.

Details and design play an integral role in the new Issey Miyake store in London

He has thus employed large blue panels made of anodised aluminium, in other words, lightly oxidised, while the flooring is a poured screed specifically made-to-measure and hand finished. Overall it is very minimalist with very close attention paid to detail.

With this store, Issey Miyake now plans on opening 17 single-brand stores around the world, most of them in Asia.
