J.C. Penney adds former CEO Payless Shoesource to board

J. C. Penney Company announced on Thursday the appointment of former Payless Shoesource CEO, W. Paul Jones, to its board of directors.
Jones has over 30 years of department store and specialty retailing experience. He served as chief executive officer of Payless ShoeSource until he retired in 2017, where he was responsible for international store growth across more than 30 countries and the development of omni-channel business capabilities and customer experience.
Prior to Payless, he was at Shopko since 2007 where he served as president, chairman and CEO of Shopko Stores from 2009 to 2012. At Shopko, Jones spearheaded the company's repositioning and turnaround, while launching and growing Shopko's e-commerce platform and customer loyalty program.
"Paul's areas of expertise are highly complementary to the ompany's focus on delivering an exceptional shopping experience to our customers," said Ron Tysoe, chairman of the J.C. Penney board of directors.
"In addition to his impressive omni-channel experience, Paul brings a wealth of merchandise and marketing insight, and I am delighted to welcome him to the J.C. Penney board."
J.C. Penney currently has over 860 stores across the United States and Puerto Rico, as well as operates an e-commerce site.
