Japan's Gaijin Made makes U.S. debut with NYC pop-up

Japanese heritage brand Gaijin Made has teamed with the 180 the Store to make its U.S. debut with a pop-up store in New York City.

Gaijin Made

Located inside New York-based rotating pop-up collective 180 the Store, the traditional Japanese clothier's American debut opens its doors to the public on Thursday, November 15.

Gaijin Made is a part of the same company as Blue Blue Japan, the in-house brand of Tokyo-based store OKURA.

The brand explains that it is "enthused by various delicate handcraft techniques from around the world and the passion that goes into it," meaning each Gaijin Made item, from accessories to garments, is imbued with unique details and mood.

Gaijin Made produces mostly men's apparel, with a small women's offering, as well as jewellery, bags and other accessories.

Beyond Japan, the design operative also works with craftsmen from all over the world to create products that reflect a particular region. African vintage fabrics and Thailand’s hand-woven textiles stand out in the brand repertoire with an emphasis on Indigo dyeing techniques.

Inside 180 the Store, the pop-up will feature handmade items that employ a specialist technique such as Thai Batik dyeing, Indian Kanthan embroidery and Peruvian hand knitting, all the while feeling modern thanks to a touch of Japanese styling by the Gaijin Made designers.

Located on 180 Duane Street, between Greenwich and Hudson, 180 the Store is a TriBeCa rotating pop-up and exhibit installation project created by Denise Williamson, the founder of Williamson PR.

The Gaijin Made New York pop-up is open now until November 30.
