New York-based designer Jeff Cafone has launched his first plus size line comprised of ready-to-wear and made-to-measure leather jackets and knitwear in sizes 12 to 30, with in-person fittings available in New York and San Francisco.

Cafone, a self-taught designer who turned his hobby of making jeans and jackets for himself into a thriving business, was prompted to create an all plus-size line after years of creating made-to-measure pieces for women of all shapes and sizes. He came to the realization that the plus-size market was lacking pieces with quality and style. But Cafone isn’t the only designer to have this sartorial ah-ha moment - between more diversity amongst luxury campaigns at Fashion Week and plus-size models and movie stars launching their own collections, it’s clear that growth in this market is not just a passing trend.

Cafone’s collection — touted as “affordable luxury" — includes pieces such as a tan suede and black moto jackets (there’s also a vegan leather option) with detachable shearling collars ($589 to $749), as well as knitwear offerings ($49 to $149) like a cropped hoodie and Italian fleece T-shirt. Everything is manufactured in Northern Portugal at the same facilities where luxury goods from labels like Dior and Moschino are produced.
