Jil Sander and Arc’teryx create outdoor capsule collection

Published

Jil Sander and active wear specialist Arc’teryx have joined forces to create an outdoor-wear capsule collection for this fall and winter 2021/22.

With a focus very much on alpine and mountain activities like skiing and snowboarding, the collection consists of three jackets - one unisex, one for women, and one for men; along with a pair of bibbed trousers and a one-piece suit, both also unisex.

Working with the Arc’teryx team, Jil Sander’s design duo of Lucie and Luke Meier have dreamed up new volumes and shapes and used the engineering skills of the Canadian brand to optimize functionality and construction.

“In their search for a strong partner to produce exceptional purpose-built apparel, the Meiers chose Arc’teryx for their 30-year commitment to craftsmanship, product integrity, and functionality, to authentic performance and innovation,” Jil Sander said in a release on Monday.

Though based in Milan, Jil Sander was launched in Hamburg by Jil Sander herself in 1973, going on to become the single most influential fashion house based in Germany in the past half century, legendary for its high-class minimalism. After several changes of ownership, the house of Jil Sander is today owned by OTB, or Only The Brave, the key holding company of Italian fashion billionaire Renzo Rosso.

Entitled Arc’teryx x Jil Sander, the collection features waterproof and breathable 3L Gore-tex Pro fabric accented with overlays of supple weatherproof leather. The interiors of the garments highlight Arc’teryx’s signature ergonomic patterning and micro-seam tape construction. The use of three solid colors in the collection - white, black, and a blue – is meant to underline reference the depth of glaciers.

“We both grew up spending time in the mountains enjoying winter sports but we could never find garments that balanced high performance with high aesthetic quality. Eventually, with Arc’teryx, a company we have always admired for their rigor and commitment to research, we had the chance to design them,” Lucie and Luke Meier said in the release.

The collection will be available online at jilsander.com, arcteryx.com, ssense.com as well as Jil Sander and Arc’teryx stores and at select retailers worldwide from November 10th.

Arc’teryx is a global design brand specializing in high-performance apparel, outerwear, and equipment. The brand’s products are sold at over 80 company-owned stores, and some 3,000 other retail locations. Based in North Vancouver, Canada, Arc’teryx boasts more than 1,200 employees worldwide.
