The awards aim to recognise business excellence for organisations engaged in direct to-customer retailing across traditional and newly emerging channels and the judges said the Leeds-based mail-order and online fashion retailer was recognised for its differentiated place in the market. That means offering women something different to the high street. It also cited Joe Browns’ unique range, continuous newness, customer loyalty, value for money and development of an inclusive non-elitist brand that women aspire to.

It’s quite an achievement for the fast-expanding label that was up against other major name including The White Company, Weird Fish and Boden.

Joe Browns has been growing its sales in recent periods and has seen two record years in succession with rises of over 30% in direct sales for each year.

Other winners included Jojo Maman Bébé, which scooped a trio of awards in the B2C for brands with sale between 330 million and £50 million, for Outstanding Customer Service and Best Overall Business 2017.

The mother and baby retailer is another fast-growing firm although much of its expansion has been focused on physical stores. It has been opening stores in the UK and getting into niche retailers in the US. But is also has a major commitment to omnichannel and its move into the US saw it opening a dedicated American website and fulfilment centre in New Jersey.

Last month the company also took on a new commercial director, former Jaeger trading director Gwynn Milligan, as it targets a doubling of sales in the next few years.
