John Elliott, the founder and designer of his eponymous label, John Elliott + Co., announced Monday that he will change the name of his label to John Elliott.
The California-based designer explained to the American media that original brand, “…really was a mouthful.” He added, “We collectively realized we should drop the ‘+ Co.’” The decision to change the name happened after Bergdorf Goodman dropped the ‘+ Co.’ on its window display and referred to it simply as ‘John Elliott.’
“After our last show, we opened 12 accounts and the list is better than anything we could have imagined,” Elliott said. “So we knew if we were going to pull the trigger on the name change, this was the season.”
The rebranding rollout has commenced and will be completed in the next couple of weeks.
John Elliott was named one of GQ’s Best New Designers in America in 2014 alongside M. Nii, En Noir and Brooklyn Tailors. The brand had its first NYFW show in February, and was one of many brands at the inaugural NYFW: Men’s.
