The Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation announced that it will honor American designer John Varvatos with the Fashion Cares Award at its 18th Annual Benefit Dinner & Auction at Cipriani Wall Street on Thursday, November 12th, 2015.
John Varvatos, who was born and raised in Detroit, MI, will join a number of other designers and brands who have received the Fashion Cares Award, including Carmen Marc Valvo, Tadashi Shojiand Cushnie et Ochs. He will be the first menswear designer to receive the award. In addition, Varvatos will be auctioning off a $10,000 shopping spree at his SoHo store at the Gala.
Varvatos regularly works with the Stuart House, a model program made by The Rape Foundation and others to serve the special needs of sexually abused children and their families. This year in April, he tapped actor, Chris Pine to attend as chair, and music artist, Ziggy Marley to perform. In 2014, he helped raise $1.1 million for the Foundation, which has raised over $5.1 million.
The American Cancer Society also auctioned off the 2013 Chrysler 300C John Varvatos Limited Edition in addition to John Varvatos merchandise and a generous shopping spree at the John Varvatos Bowery Store in New York City with hotel and airfare included at the Annual American Cancer Society Cattle Baron’s Ball in 2013.
The Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation is an international organization dedicated to curing and preventing cancer. Since being founded in 1976, the foundation has awarded $90 million to support the work of over 200 researchers worldwide.
