Burberry has just launched its SS21 campaign and given that it was shot in line with social distancing restrictions, it's quite different from many of its previous creatives.

Not that it lacks big names with the company having signed Juergen Teller for the shoot. Stylist Katy England, Burberry Global Beauty Director Isamaya Ffrench and hair stylist Gary Gill also worked on it.

And the cast of models includes He Cong, Tyler Forbes, Khali Ghani, Kayako Higuchi, Tashi Kwaiye, Reece Nelson, Yiorgos Paraskevas, Aylah Peterson, Claus Royo, Liv Walter, and Anok Yai.

It continues the SS21 show ideas with creative chief Riccardo Tisci saying it’s “all about continuing that examination of different perspectives, contrasting the rawness of the internal environment with the ever-blooming nature of the outdoors”.

In practice, this means that each composite image contrasts a detailed outdoor shot from the season’s ‘runway’ show with an image set against a stark white background.

The company said it’s “bringing together contrasting worlds in an exploration of differing perspectives and viewpoints.” And it added that the shots “present a dichotomy between images: two different realms, indoors and outdoors, nature and fashion. Images captured within the scenography of the Spring/Summer 2021 show, with models immersed in nature, are juxtaposed with classical raw studio shots. Through these opposing lenses, the collection is presented from different viewpoints, transforming with the environment around them”.

And the idea of contrast is played out in the pieces featuring in the campaign as well with “natural canvas, denim and industrial, rubberised fabrications [that] combine with delicate chiffon and crystal embroideries – streetwear meets classic”.
