Kindah Khalidy will exhibit her Nuclear Gardens show at Art Market San Francisco

Published

California-based artist Kindah Khalidy is known for mixing elements of design and fashion into her work, and her latest exhibition is no exception. Khalidy's “Nuclear Gardens” will show at Art Market San Francisco.

Like her previous work, Khalidy’s new exhibition will utilize a mix of mediums, such as textiles, sculpture, printmaking and painting. With the combination of those materials and mediums, Khalidy is able to bridge the gap between design and art. It is also the first time Khalidy has presented her textile work alongside her fine art. “With the time I’ve taken to work in different areas, back and forth through paint layering, exploring shapes with negative space, and quilt drawings, a lot of these works explore what I have been doing over the past 2 years,” she says.

Though Khalidy’s work utilizes bright colors and childlike shapes, she also brings some hard, violent lines to the work, which juxtaposes the positive and the negative. “A lot like life, my work plays on the idea of the positive, the humorous, the rotten, and everything in between existing together in one place. I hope that it brings some happiness, and contentment to people’s lives when they’re viewing it, even if it’s for a quick minute,” she says.

Prior to its arrival at Art Market, Khalidy’s Nuclear Gardens was on display for a month San Francisco’s Chandran Gallery. The 2017 edition of Art Market San Francisco will take place from April 27-30 at the Fort Mason Center.
