Kingpins reveals new denim trend initiative

Published
Jun 28, 2016

Kingpins, the denim tradeshow that holds biannual shows in New York, Hong Kong and Amsterdam, is making it easier for its visitors to find out about the future of denim with a new trend initiative.

Kingpins

The tradeshow has teamed up with Amy Leverton, the noted denim consultant, trend expert and author of the book “Denim Dudes”, to create a comprehensive seasonal denim forecast of fabric, fit and finish. This will be combined with a curated and styled garment installation illustrating the trends and showcasing the exhibitors’ denim fabrics. The initiative launches for the Spring/Summer 2018 season, and will see Leverton develop and present the trends at all of Kingpins S/S 2018 shows, as well as curate the garment installations.

“Our opinion has always been that denim trends begin and end with fabric. Mills are the engine of innovation and inspiration in our industry,” said Andrew Olah, founder of Kingpins Show. “For many seasons we have fielded requests from attendees for more trend-related information from a Kingpins perspective. At the same time, our amazing mills are hungry to showcase their offerings in a way that is new, that is native to the Kingpins ethos and that allows them to participate in the trend conversation more immediately. By working with Amy and creating what is essentially a denim trend forecast with a corresponding inspirational installation that truly allows the mills’ innovation and creativity to shine through, we are connecting all the dots.”

The denim trend forecast will be presented daily at the Kingpins Shows by Leverton. "I've been so inspired over the past six years working alongside the fantastic team at Kingpins and I've often considered the potential in uniting their community of mills, finishers and wash houses to create something unique,” said Leverton. “There is so much talent under one roof, so much innovation coming from these top industry players that if we can just showcase and contextualize that inspiration, we can create something fantastic. My aim is to unite the community and create the ultimate capsule collection that will inspire us all to start the S/S18 season with a bang.”

The physical denim trend installation will be created together with Wink, the Amsterdam-based “experience architects” of the Kingpins Amsterdam and WHY by Kingpins shows.
